By contributing to the ongoing consolidation of the Center of Biosafety Big Science Facility of CAS (see details for Big Science Facility of CAS, please browse the website at http://english.cas.cn/Special_Reports/Pioneer_Initiative/), WIV has launched a global recruitment of principal investigators under the “Outstanding Foreign Talents” program of CAS. The applicants can apply for the following positions according to different scientific merits and achievements.

 

A. Positions

 

(1) Academic deputy director

(2) Technical expert in cryo-EM

 

B. Job responsibilities

 

Academic deputy director: To accurately master discipline status and development direction of biosafety; to pay attention to strategic planning and forward-looking layout, and to promote major breakthroughs and major innovative achievements that have significant influences; to organize international academic communications at the level of the research institute, and to expand the impact of virology and biosafety in international academic circle; to actively train young talents.

 

Technical expert in cryo-EM: To focus on the scientific innovation objectives of the research institute and following domestic and international academic frontier fields, and to establish scientific research direction and design research projects; to set up a 3D structure research platform for biological macromolecular complexes and virus particles; to introduce, develop, and innovate 3D reconstruction technology in cryo-EM, to resolve technical problems, and develop highly efficient or high-efficiency service abilities, and to provide good technical support for scientific research; to lead teams to preside major projects  at national or institute level; to advise and train young technical talents; to implement multifaceted overseas academic cooperation and communication.

 

C. Position conditions and relevant requirements

 

Academic deputy director: Having had a position of being a professor in a world-renowned university or a scientific research institute, or being a dean (deputy dean) or chairman (deputy chairman) or equivalent management position; having made outstanding academic achievements in virology and related disciplines; having shown a significant international academic impact and being universally recognized by the international peers; possessing a leadership talent and a team organization ability.

 

Technical expert in cryo-EM: Mastering the technologies in biological EM, cryo-E, and 3D reconstruction technology for cryo-electron microscopy; having solved analyzed 3D structure of complex with a molecular weight of at least 2MD or the above; be a young or middle-aged talent who has at least three years (including three years) of postdoctoral experience in cryo-EM or related disciplines. Any person who published top scientific research thesis, installed or maintained 200Kv cryo-electron microscopy is preferred. Candidates who have published papers in top-notch journals or have experience in installation and maintenance of a 200 KV cryo-EM facility are preferred.

 

D. Available support

 

Academic deputy director: The research institute will provide a 400-600m2 laboratory, an expense support of RMB 10,000,000-20,000,000, and sufficient stuff positions for building up the team.

Technical expert in cryo-EM: The research institute will provide a 100-200m2 laboratory, an expense support of RMB 3,000,000-4,000,000, and sufficient stuff positions for building up the team.
